the streets of barangaroo

Barangaroo is Sydney’s newest neighbourhood, and many of the streets within are quite literally the city’s newest roads. The first building was completed in July 2015, when the first section of Barangaroo was opened.

As tenants started moving in so to did the streets start to open to pop-up food vendors and a trickling of restaurants and bars. To aid in the greening of what is still a construction area, Quatro Design was commissioned to supply a number of its Civic planters in painted finishes, the largest being the 2000 Civic square planter. These colourful break-out areas enable people to sit and enjoy the views and sample the neighbourhood street food.

Further sections of the South precinct will progressively open until its fully completed in 2021.

lourdes hill college

Lourdes Hill College located in Hawthorn, an inner eastern suburb of Brisbane, received a new extension earlier this year and Quatro Design was approached to supply & install planters in the beautification and greening of the new outdoor spaces created. An array of Quatro U bowls, Cylinder, & Cube planters were painted in shades of blue, positioned on site and planted out with a variety of species including olives & magnolias.

custom tree rings for tract

Following our 4 part mould making blog series we finally have the finished, fully installed tree ring. These tree rings were specified & designed by Tract for the Monaco Apartments project in Rhodes, Sydney, and made in 3 sections to form a 4m diameter ring. The overall project included 3 of these tree rings alongside multiple bowls, planters & troughs from the Quatro range.

madame brussels lane

Located at 50 Lonsdale St in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD lies Madam Brussels Lane. A revitalized retail precinct named after the notorious Melburnian, Madame Brussels, brothel owner and resident of Lonsdale Street.

It was a delight to work with Place Partners in helping to create a vibrant urban space using planters and street furniture from our GEM range. The brightly coloured GEM pieces stand alongside some of our trough and cube planters with custom timber details. Huge 1200 x 1200 cube planters had timber bench seats attached, while smaller scale trough planters had timber ‘slips’ made for an outer covering, adding warmth to a predominantly concrete environment.

We look forward to revisiting this space when the plantings become a little more established. Beautiful, fun, vibrant work!

helensvale library

The recently-completed Helensvale library and community centre on the Gold Coast features a large tree planter plus bollards made by Quatro Design in GRC.  The large custom  seat planter is 3.5 metres x 2.5 metres, and was made without a floor in it.  This enables the tree roots to grown downwards into the subsoil below.  Quatro Design also supplied the timber seat elements.

We made two seat planters for the project although only one made it into the completed project.  The Gold Coast City Council is likely to incorporate the second planter into another local project.

The bollards (400 x 400 x 450) incorporate lighting, and were also custom-made for the project.

Landscape design was by Complete Urban’s Gold Coast branch.

a whole lot of soul in paradise

Here’s a look at the recently revamped Soul development in Surfers Paradise. Working with Greg Boevink from the Soul design team we supplied five of these seat-planters used in the project and were happy to see them in use on the weekend with people lounging in the sun, or keeping out of it in the shade. The Gold Coast is seeing a smattering of style driven designed urban spaces like this at the moment so here’s hoping we see more to come!
