Caterpillar to Butterfly – From mould to beautiful pots

We love custom projects and seeing collaborative design ideas transform from initial sketches to a beautiful final product and the 1200 custom bowls for Robina Town Centre, Gold Coast, was no exception.

When asked to add offset line detail to one of our classic pot shapes we leapt at the challenge.

Mould-making requires literal out of the box thinking whereby we approach pot manufacture from the outside in. This blog shares the creative journey from pot design to installation to give you a sneak-peak of what some of our custom pot manufacturing steps entail.

We are also proud to hand-manufacture to order right here in Australia.

Design to Mould

The final design is transformed into a plug (pattern) which forms the internal shape of the mould.

Silicone is applied and a fibreglass shell follows.

The mould is now ready for our GRC (Glass-fibre reinforced concrete) production process.

Final Touches and Delivery

Once the pots have cured they move to our detailing department to ensure that each pot complies to our stringent quality control procedures before they are wrapped and prepared for delivery.

The completed pots look great once installed and compliment the interior styling theme.

We had a lot of fun with this custom design project and look forward to sharing more of our designs and projects with you in future.

Quatro Design – where landscape meets architecture

Stockland Green Hills LED trees

The amazing LED trees in the newly-opened dining precinct at Stockland’s Green Hills shopping centre incorporate 1800mm diameter Designer Bowls made by Quatro Design.

The LED trees with the planted-out Quatro bowls mounted on top look pretty good by day, but at night they really come alive providing a spectacular light show.  Click here to see a video of the area on the opening night.

quatro planters stand out at the star

Many who have visited The Star Casino at Darling Harbour in Sydney will have seen the large Quatro Designer Bowls at the front entrance to the building.  More recently Quatro planters were installed on the rooftop deck areas as part of the Casino’s upgrade.

The installation of over 50 planters required five semi truck-loads to deliver to site.  It included four of our 2.3 metre Designer Bowls plus many 1.5 metre diameter planters from our U-Bowl range.  All were painted in bright red colours.

The Quatro Design planters were specified by Occulus Landscape Architects, and were installed by Regal Innovations.

Currumbin RSL Cenotaph Memorial Gardens

Congratulations to Mick Stovin of Green Mandala for the amazing job he and his team have done at the new cenotaph memorial garden at the Currumbin RSL. Mick completed the project this week just in time for the upcoming ANZAC day commemorations.

Quatro Design is honoured to have been involved in the project.  We supplied a number of planters and street furniture elements including our new SOUL 2200 seat planter.  The bowl for the eternal flame water-feature was also supplied by us.

brisbane international garden show

Last weekend we visited the Brisbane International Garden Show and as always headed straight to the landscape displays, always full of inspiration, this years entries didn’t dissappoint. We were proud to contribute one of our 800 tall U bowls to Horticultural Training (design by JW Concepts) and congratulations to the team on winning the silver medal.
