Japara is one of Australia’s largest Aged Care providers, with their personal approach to each resident making them one of the most admired. Their latest offer, Robina Rise, spans over six levels and caters to the needs of 106 residents, boasting an on-site café, beauty salon, bar, theatre and a large rooftop garden.
Dale, who is responsible for all maintenance services at Robina Rise recently gave me a tour accompanied by his service dog Buster. Buster is well-loved by all the residents as he stops for chats and pats wherever he goes.
Our 400 series troughs in white have been used on dining room balconies over three different levels and provide greenery to the rooftop garden. The dining room balconies are furnished providing an outdoor area for rest and relaxation during the day.
Quatro Design supplied 2000x400x400 and 1600x400x400 planter boxes for this installation in addition to a 700 Designer Bowl that is yet to be converted into a water feature in one of the courtyard gardens.
It is lovely to see the quality of care that has gone into the construction and management of this aged care facility, and hope that the maturing green spaces in combination with Buster will continue to bring joy to all residents.
Quatro Design has an extensive range of modern contemporary trough planter boxes, large rectangular planters and square planters to suit any landscape application, whether it is to streetscape and provide greenery to compliment commercial spaces and office buildings or to assist with screening and privacy on balcony and rooftop gardens.

Quatro Design – Where landscape meets architecture
George & Allen, designed by Turner Studio, is a series of four new apartment buildings in Sydney. Its located on the corner of George and Allen streets in Waterloo. Its design style references the legacy of the site and traditional brick warehouses of the area. Lush courtyards comprise the three intervening spaces, while facades have vertical gardens providing a natural screen to the corridors.
Working with Junglefy who specialise in green wall design, plantings & maintenance, Quatro Design supplied custom GRC tall narrow green wall planters for this project. These planters house a number of climbers, running along a maze of intertwined wires. They would eventually create a living green wall along the internal stairwells and corridors.
Using 3 standard Quatro 1500 (500 Series) trough planter boxes, John here at Quatro Design has set up a beautiful green wall vertical garden along one wall of his courtyard. John bolted a galvanised steel frame with mesh panel to the planters, and then around 80 Skale green wall pots were hung on the mesh of each frame. He then installed a simple drip-irrigation system which irrigates the top row of pots. Excess water then flows down from pot to pot, and within just a few minutes the entire wall has been watered.
The plants, many of them bromeliads, were potted out around this time last year. The usual sight of the drab back fence is now but a distant memory as John now looks upon the verdant, lush, tropical green living wall he has created.
Late last year Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast began work on their proposed $345 million makeover. Quatro Design has supplied multiple cube & trough planter boxes for Stage 1 using different sizes and shapes to create a tetris of inter-locking planters for balcony gardens.
Check out this simple but effective water-feature by George and Jennifer Anderson of Gardens by Jemma, a boutique landscape design and construction company in Brisbane. George and Jennifer frequently incorporate Quatro Design products into their landscape projects.
For this water-feature they have used two of our 2400mm long trough planters from our 600 Modular Series. When making the troughs we incorporated additional wall reinforcement to counter the considerable water pressure against the 2.4 metre x 600mm high walls.
Gardens by Jemma literally went underwater during the Brisbane floods back in early 2012. They’re located a stone’s throw from the Brisbane River in Westend, a suburb that was severely affected during the flood. Fortunately that hasn’t stopped them from continuing to beaufify Brisbane homes and gardens.
Our local coffee haunt in Burleigh Heads, Canteen Coffee, not only does a cracking cup of java, but they are slowly taking over the whole arcade and filling it with vintage, rustic furnishings, and a selection of our planters filled with the most beautiful succulent specimans. Showing how perfectly the clean structured lines of our planters can blend with almost any architectural or interior style. We’ll have to let the boys know that we’ll be using this space as our showroom and having all our client meetings here from now on.
