green wall planters grace new industrial residential block

George & Allen, designed by Turner Studio, is a series of four new apartment buildings in Sydney.  Its located on the corner of George and Allen streets in Waterloo. Its design style references the legacy of the site and traditional brick warehouses of the area. Lush courtyards comprise the three intervening spaces, while facades have vertical gardens providing a natural screen to the corridors.

Working with Junglefy who specialise in green wall design, plantings & maintenance, Quatro Design supplied custom GRC tall narrow green wall planters for this project. These planters house a number of climbers, running along a maze of intertwined wires.  They would eventually create a living green wall along the internal stairwells and corridors.

elements of byron bay resort

Quatro Design is proud to have been involved with Elements of Byron, a new resort and spa development located in Byron Bay.

Opening in early February 2016, Elements of Byron takes architectural inspiration from the native flora and fauna of the area. Organic and feminine in form, the low impact single-story pavilion blurs with its surroundings, with the landscape and interiors typically Australian in style.

The Byron region is home to many great artists, glass blowers to ceramicists and painters, with the resort commissioning several of these local artists to produce work in various media. In keeping with the desire to keep all things ‘authentically Byron’, Quatro Design in nearby Murwillumbah produced various GRC (glassfibre reinforced concrete) elements for the project’s outdoor spaces.  These included a 2.3 metre diameter fire-pit, pool-side stools and side tables, and Quatro’s new ‘Avocado’ seat in in the day spa.  All were made in a colour palette inspired by the resort’s unique natural surroundings.

schiavello x quatro

For our most recent collaboration we teamed up with Schiavello, a top 100 Australian private company specialising in construction, product design and property development. The work ethos of Schiavello built on quality, service excellence and innovation was an easy fit for Quatro, and we were happy to be involved in the design and development of a range of planters for their upcoming project at Queensland Governments, 1 William St, Brisbane, a major work from architects Woods Bagot. Our involvement oversaw the design development and manufacturing of a GRC planter base that would hold a powder coated steel or timber veneer MDF sleeve in which to house and elevate a small planter, 3 different sizes have been produced so far in the range, with a potential 4th to come. This collaboration has been in the works since early 2015 and we look forward to seeing them in their new home in Brisbane soon.
