Quatro Design is proud to be associated with the Australian Made campaign and have been ‘Australian Made’ certified since 2013.
The Australian Made brand has one of the most recognised and trusted logo’s in the country and assists in assuring our customers that our products are “genuinely Australian” and manufactured to the highest standards.
We are committed to our wonderfully passionate employees and by manufacturing locally we play a key role in supporting the economic development and prosperity of our local Northern Rivers, NSW community. We encourage a clean and green environment in our factory and support our employees’ growth and personal development through on-going training initiatives.
We have noticed an influx of imported pots, planters and street furniture in the landscaping industry of late, however unfortunately not all imported landscaping products comply to the same standards. In fact not every GRC pot is the same – refer to one of our previous blogs here.
When purchasing and installing a Quatro Design pot, planter, trough or any of our street furniture ranges it comes with the peace of mind that each product has been lovingly made by hand adhering to the strictest Australian manufacturing standards.
We are grateful for the support we’ve received from the Australian landscape architecture and landscape gardening industry so far and look forward to assisting our customers with their projects using our proudly Australian Made products going into the future.
Quatro Design – where landscape meets architecture
Quatro Design has an extensive range of modern contemporary trough planter boxes, large rectangular planters and square planters to suit any landscape application, whether it is to streetscape and provide greenery to compliment commercial spaces and office buildings or to assist with screening and privacy on balcony and rooftop gardens.
Our GRC (Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete) troughs are made from a mixture of cement, sand and other additives that is reinforced with bundled strands of fibreglass filaments, this increases the strength of the concrete whilst reducing the weight of the planter compared to pre-cast concrete products. All pots, planter boxes and seats come in four standard colours: white, concrete grey, charcoal and sandstone.
400 Series Modular Troughs
Our 400 SERIES troughs are perfectly suited to add greenery and screening to narrow spaces. Our 400mm wide by 400mm high troughs are manufactured in the following lengths: 800mm, 1200m, 1600mm and 2000mm. Ornamental grasses like Liriope or Pennisetum and sculptural succulent plants like Sanseveria compliment this range very well.

Our 500 SERIES troughs are the perfect modular solution and can be used in virtually any landscaping project. 600 Series Modular Troughs
Quatro’s 600 SERIES trough planters are the perfect contemporary accessory for rooftop gardens and decks. The wider base (compared to our 400mm and 500mm troughs) is better suited to medium-sized shrubs and screening plants to provide screening and privacy to outdoor areas. Screenings shrubs like Nandina, Murraya and clumping Bamboo varieties compliment this modern trough range well. Our 600mm wide by 600mm high troughs come in the following lengths: 1200mm and 1800mm.

Our range of NARROW TALL PLANTERS are ideal for landscape situations where you require tall trough planter boxes that have a narrow footprint. Quatro Design – Where landscape meets architecture
We love custom projects and seeing collaborative design ideas transform from initial sketches to a beautiful final product and the 1200 custom bowls for Robina Town Centre, Gold Coast, was no exception.
When asked to add offset line detail to one of our classic pot shapes we leapt at the challenge.
Mould-making requires literal out of the box thinking whereby we approach pot manufacture from the outside in. This blog shares the creative journey from pot design to installation to give you a sneak-peak of what some of our custom pot manufacturing steps entail.
We are also proud to hand-manufacture to order right here in Australia.
Design to Mould
The final design is transformed into a plug (pattern) which forms the internal shape of the mould.
Silicone is applied and a fibreglass shell follows.
The mould is now ready for our GRC (Glass-fibre reinforced concrete) production process.
Final Touches and Delivery
Once the pots have cured they move to our detailing department to ensure that each pot complies to our stringent quality control procedures before they are wrapped and prepared for delivery.
The completed pots look great once installed and compliment the interior styling theme.
We had a lot of fun with this custom design project and look forward to sharing more of our designs and projects with you in future.

Quatro Design – where landscape meets architecture
We know our GRC U Bowl planters are pretty robust, but how well do they perform in a cyclone? Now we know the answer.
Recently we received this email from Gary Hewitt at Future Scene Landscaping who wrote:
Thought u might like this pic. We installed these pots for FKP Hayman Island back in 2014 ? Attached pic after cyclone 2016, now u know they are Cyclone rated.
Gary’s referring to Cyclone Debbie that hit Queensland’s Whitsundays region on March 28 last year with 263km/h winds and tidal surges. Hayman Island was hit hard and suffered considerable damage. But its good to know our planters survived unscathed.
The Fringe Bar in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley has been a local landmark for the past 15 years. Its now been reborn as The Osbourne Hotel, reverting to its original name when the hotel was opened way back in 1864.
The newly-renovated Hotel has a 400-seat bistro and beer garden that features Quatro Design hemispherical bowls made in GRC concrete hanging from the glass-ceiling. Plants drape over the rims of the the bowls as part of the tropical, natural light-filled ambiance.
The charcoal-coloured GRC bowls were custom-made by Quatro Design. They are attached to the ceiling beams by means of aluminium centre posts that have been powder-coated to a matching colour.
Barangaroo has come a long way since the massive development within the Sydney CBD began several years ago. This past week I was down in Sydney, and while walking through the lane ways in the area I saw several Quatro Design planter products. Firstly, there were numerous 1200 Designer Bowls, oftentimes nested with pots of varied styles and made of different materials. The contrast in styles works well together.
Then there’s the Pocket Park featuring a range of our Civic square and trough planter boxes. We supplied these several years ago for a temporary garden area during the Barangaroo construction phase. Now the planters have been re-purposed in the Pocket Park. They’ve been repainted in bright colours, and now sit amidst the outdoor ping pong tables and street furniture. It all looks very chic and cool.
Whenever Chris or I go down to Sydney we aim to photograph projects where Quatro Design products have been installed. This week it was Chris’ turn, and he visited 65 Martin Place, home of the Reserve Bank of Australia.
Earlier this year, the RBA contacted us to order a 2300 Designer Bowl, the largest in our Designer Bowl collection. They also wanted the bowl to come in Rust Effect which we achieved by painting the bowl with a rust effect speciality paint containing iron particles. Following painting, an activator is applied to the iron-rich surface. This causes a chemical reaction whereby the iron is converted into iron oxide — in other words, rust.
The ‘rusty’ Designer bowl is now located at ground level along the Macquarie Street side of the RBA building. It’s been planted out with a Dragon Tree. We think the two go well together.
The amazing LED trees in the newly-opened dining precinct at Stockland’s Green Hills shopping centre incorporate 1800mm diameter Designer Bowls made by Quatro Design.
The LED trees with the planted-out Quatro bowls mounted on top look pretty good by day, but at night they really come alive providing a spectacular light show. Click here to see a video of the area on the opening night.
Former Australian Minister Paul Keating grew up in the Sydney suburb of Bankstown. Today, Paul Keating Park within the City of Canterbury Bankstown honours his connection to the area. A new addition to the Park is an outdoor lounge suite made in GRC concrete by Quatro Design.
Back in late 2016, we were contacted by the Council about making outdoor furniture for an “Outdoor reading room” in the Park adjacent to the Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre. The concept called for three-seater and single-seater sofas made in concrete. We came up with several design options, one of which was accepted by the Council and subsequently ordered and made.
Landscape Architect Adrian Webster at Canterbury Bankstown Council has sent us a photo of the installed seats. He commented that the seats are being ‘well used’.
The single-seater and three-seater sofas, together with a matching footstool, are now standard Quatro Design products. We’ve called the collection ‘Soffa’ which is the Swedish word for ‘sofa’.
If you’ve visiting the Sydney CBD soon, look out for Sydney Light Rail’s transformation of George Street which includes seventy-five Quatro Design GRC planter boxes.
In October we were approached by Sydney Light Rail to supply 75 custom planter boxes before the end of November. We said we could do it within the timeframe, and received the go-ahead in late October. This meant fabricating four moulds for the metre x metre x metre planters on 75mm high feet, and then making four planters per day. Delivery required two semi-truck loads. The planters were delivered on schedule, installed and planted out ready for the opening on 5 December.
Here’s two videos showing the George Street transformation.
